Teaching Philosophy

Education helps to create our community's future citizens. Our society is shaped by education in many ways. Students learn ways to behave and belong in schools. Teachers should focus on teaching students to be the citizens of tomorrow through the curriculum and hidden curriculum. Students should be taught the curriculum through innovative ways that challenge them to become critical thinkers. Students should be taught to collaborate with one another and to be passionate about building their own understanding. Opportunities for hands on and experiential learning should be provided to help students of all abilities succeed. Students should be able to reach their own unique goals. Students should feel free to be their own unique individual and safe to share their thoughts, opinions, and beliefs. Families and parents should have the opportunity to be involved in their child’s education and should be welcomed in the classroom and school community.
The teacher plays an important role as the model of what are appropriate forms of behaviour and what is valuable knowledge. Teachers carry the excitement and passion that can ignite a fire and inspire learning in students, creating students that are open to, and enjoy learning. Teachers should be life long learners, continuing to professionally develop themselves and continuing to learn the most effective teaching strategies.Teachers should ooze positivity and build up confidence and perseverance in their students. Teachers should create an environment that allows students to be individuals while still reaching their goals. The classroom environment should be a safe community where there is communication and understanding between all members. It should also be an equitable environment where each student receives what they need to help them do the best learning possible. All these things will create great opportunities and positive learning for all students.
